Malbec, a red grape, originated in South West France where it is one of only five red varieties permitted int he Bordeaux appellation. Although the variety was first planted in Argentina as far back as 1852, it is only in the past 20 years that is has grown to be appreciated by t he outside world. Malbec is typically a medium to full-bodied red wine. Ripe fruit flavors of plums and blacberry give it a jammy characteristic. The tannins are typically a bit tight and earthy, wood-like appeal makes for a faily rustic, yet versatile wine. Tasting includes Malecs from Argentina, Chile and Washington regions. A diverse tasting perfect for those who are familiar with Malbec as well as novice Malbec drinkers.
